i swear to god, men raising their voice is the most terrifying thing in the whole world. they dont understand, like its an immediate panic response, game over

I actually had no idea women found this so scary

my downstairs neighbors fight on a regular basis, and every time he starts yelling i’m a little afraid he’s going to kill her. i have no reason to think this except that he is a man and he is angry

My math teacher has a loud voice and a temper and he scares the living shit out of me almost everyday. He’s made me and other kids cry more than once and he and his teacher buddies make a joke out of terrifying students.

this was women in general? i knew my gf didn’t like it but I was unaware if this affected most women

Yes, it does

As a woman, I had no idea it effected other women like this. I was too afraid to even talk about it. I thought I was weak. Thanks for bringing attention to this.

My dad thinks it’s funny that I used to cry when he raised his voice. I freak out whenever some one does. Once my director did, and I started crying I couldn’t stop. I’m glad to see I’m not alone…

This is so important– seeing how common this is– and I also want you all to know that this is not normal. It isn’t something instinctively ingrained into women, to be afraid of men. There is no natural state of men being a threat that women constantly have to be afraid of. This is cultural. So many women and girls here have a mutual understanding of this feeling, and I think it really shows an unsettling truth about our society, particularly about how men are raised to act and how so many women have this defensive reaction gradually develop. It’s so important that these people have their voices heard, because it teaches us about problems that we just can’t deny the existence of any longer.

I’m glad I’m not the only one

My fellow men, pay attention. I didn’t realize how scary this could be until one of my exes explained it to me, and it’s heartbreaking.

Also, when we move too much during an argument, or lean forward, it’s scary, and I never knew. I was even a little insulted at first, because surely she didn’t think I would hurt her. But see, that doesn’t matter. It wasn’t a sign that she mistrusted me specifically; it’s a conditioned response. (Although if you keep doing it once you realize it scares her, she SHOULDN’T trust you.)

Not every woman has been physically harmed by a man she trusted, but every woman KNOWS a woman who has.

I used to be horrible about this, because I didn’t realize how intimidating it was. I didn’t understand why the woman I was with clammed up or tried to tell me what she thought I wanted to hear, and I only got angrier, and acted even more like an asshole. It was wrong. It was abusive. It didn’t matter if I INTENDED it that way; it was still emotionally abusive. And it was inexcusable.

I get that when passions are high, and when you’re frustrated, it’s a natural tendency to let your voice get louder, to shout and gesture and lean forward. But you can train yourself to do better. You can train yourself to keep more of an even tone, to refrain from large and fast gestures, to not lean into her personal space. I did. I’m not perfect at it yet, but goddamn it, I WILL be.

Don’t tell me it’s too hard, that you just can’t do it, or that you “shouldn’t have to.” I’m 53 years old and just now getting the hang of it, and if this old dog can learn something new, so can you.

In French, we don’t say “ninety nine”, we say “quatre vingt dix neuf” which roughly translates to “I’ve never heard of a functional numeric system before” and I think that’s beautiful

today i got some columbian food in the back of a haunted mall how was everyone else’s day

image

ok i will tell the tale

so im taking this spanish class, spanish professor wanted us to go out to eat to practice. im all prepared, i punch in the address and drive 2 the place. turns out this place isnt really a restaurant so much as it is a small habitable zone at the back of a vast, empty mall

image

there was dead silence and darkness. 90% of the outlets were shut down and blocked off

image

it was 2 o’clock on a Saturday, but this mall was COMPLETELY barren. an air of powerful curses hung in the air. none of the escalators were working, i had to hike up one like stairs

image

of course once i got to the restaurant i had a nice time and some p good food and a guy with a saxophone serenaded us with covers of pop hits

my freinds, it was surreal

so my plans got really mixed up today and i decided to revisit the cursed mall while i was in the area! it seems things have gotten even stranger

image

for the most part, it is still the creepy empty mall it has always been. but this time even less stores were open, even the columbian restaurant was closed.

image

the food court, which was slightly open before, was utterly barren, and for some reason slightly sped-up mexican sounding music played over the completely empty venue

image

this was a particularly strange outlet, where instead of the remains of a store, there was a neatly set up classroom in the display window

still can’t believe that someone would write Padme dying from “loosing her will to live” after just having two beautiful babies and meanwhile that burned circus peanut has enough will to survive 100% burning and tripple amputation. only a man could write that bullshit.

NO NO NO THATS NOT WHAT HAPPENED. GEORGE LUCAS MAY BE DUMB SOMETIMES BUT HES ALSO CLEVER. JUST LISTEN.

What scene is shown simultaneously with Padme giving birth? Anakin being put into the suit. And going by this, Padme dies at practically the same moment Anakin’s transformation is complete. And here’s why that’s significant: Palpatine’s master was said to have been working on (never says if he figured it out) a way to lengthen life/bring someone back. By using the Force, the very thing that flows in everyone. Therefore, it is safe to assume that Palpatine either finished what his master started or just learned the knowledge. Palpatine literally drained Padme’s lifeforce and gave it to Anakin. There is literally no way he would’ve survived otherwise. And there’s definitely no way Padme would’ve just keeled over. No. Palpatine was the reason she died and the reason Anakin didn’t. It also explains why the droids couldn’t find anything wrong with her. They can’t sense the Force.

And in case you need further proof: When Anakin comes to, he immediately and expectantly asks where Padme is because he felt her presence. And Palpatine responds that “it would seem that in your rage, you killed her.” Now why would he say that, when we all know full well that Anakin left her alive and well?? It’s because in a way, Anakin was the reason for her death. This also explains why Palpatine looks so utterly gleeful in this scene. Because he knows that a) he’s got a new puppet of course, but b) he just gave Anakin his final, fatal push to the Dark Side. Had Padme been left alive, Anakin never would’ve truly succumbed to the Dark. And even if they were to lie and say she died, chances are Anakin would’ve felt that she was alive, somehow. No, Padme had to die. And by killing her this way, it kept Anakin alive, and gave Palpatine a legitimate excuse to tell Anakin that he himself was the one who killed her. That alone was the only way Anakin was going to completely relinquish the Light: if he believed that in his attempts to use the Dark to save his wife he had instead killed her, he would believe he was too far gone, that there was nothing left for him but this dark path he had set himself on. (This is further proved by what he says to Luke in VI, and by how simply finding out he had children, something to actually live for, was enough to make him come back to the Light.)

So, in short: No, Padme did not give up the will to live, and no, it wasn’t written that way either. Unfortunately, George Lucas was always a bit too subtle with his cleverness and it often went unnoticed. But it was there, and it’s quite genius.

watching an actress in full makeup pretend to wash her face and then pat dry her still fully contoured cheeks for an acne wash commercial

when i was 13 i had no idea what make up looked like on. media literacy is important

I especially like the makeup remover ads where she takes off her lipstick, to reveal lighter lipstick underneath.

or the commercials for razors with women shaving their already baby smooth, waxed legs

This is such a surreal, dystopian thing about our culture. We literally treat the natural female body like its obscene. No wonder girls grow up with so much self loathing when they feel as if their own skin is incorrect.
